This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) explains the rules that apply when using Mutual Covenant, including our websites, church management platform, member portal, communications tools, Online Giving features, child check-in features, reporting tools, integrations, and related services collectively referred to as the “Services.”
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy in addition to the Mutual Covenant Terms of Service and applicable laws and regulations.
1. Permitted use
Mutual Covenant is designed to help churches and religious organizations manage their ministries, members, communications, giving, events, volunteers, children’s programs, pastoral care, and related administrative activities.
You may use Mutual Covenant only for legitimate organizational, ministry, administrative, charitable, and related purposes.
You are responsible for ensuring that everyone who accesses Mutual Covenant through your church or organization complies with this policy.
2. Illegal or unlawful activity
You may not use Mutual Covenant to engage in, facilitate, promote, or assist with illegal activity. Prohibited activity includes, but is not limited to:
- Fraud or attempted fraud.
- Theft or unauthorized financial transactions.
- Money laundering or unlawful financial activity.
- Identity theft.
- Unauthorized access to computer systems or accounts.
- Distribution of illegal material.
- Violations of applicable privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, communications, or financial laws.
- Using the Services in a manner that violates sanctions, court orders, or other legally binding restrictions.
3. Fraudulent or deceptive fundraising
Mutual Covenant Online Giving must only be used for legitimate fundraising and charitable or ministry-related purposes. You may not:
- Misrepresent the identity of a church, ministry, organization, fundraiser, or beneficiary.
- Collect donations for fraudulent, misleading, or nonexistent causes.
- Use stolen or unauthorized payment information.
- Attempt to manipulate, test, or validate stolen payment cards.
- Conceal the true purpose of a financial transaction.
- Use Online Giving to process transactions unrelated to the stated organization or legitimate purpose.
- Use Mutual Covenant as a payment-processing service for unrelated third parties.
Organizations using Stripe-connected Online Giving are also subject to applicable Stripe agreements, restrictions, and prohibited-business requirements, including Stripe’s current Prohibited and Restricted Businesses list. Mutual Covenant does not permit its Services to be used to evade payment processor rules.
4. Sanctions, prohibited jurisdictions, and payment restrictions
Organizations may not use Mutual Covenant or Online Giving, directly or indirectly, to collect, transmit, direct, or facilitate funds for any person, entity, activity, transaction, or jurisdiction prohibited by Stripe or applicable sanctions, export-control, anti-money-laundering, or other applicable laws. This includes:
- Transactions involving jurisdictions, persons, entities, activities, or transactions prohibited by Stripe or applicable sanctions and trade-control laws.
- Collecting or directing funds to benefit sanctioned or otherwise prohibited persons or entities.
- Using Mutual Covenant to circumvent sanctions, Stripe restrictions, or other payment-processing rules.
- Funding illegal activities or activities prohibited by Stripe.
- Providing inaccurate compliance information, or concealing the identity of a donor, beneficiary, organizer, or recipient, to evade sanctions or payment restrictions.
Organizations may not use Mutual Covenant to circumvent geographic, financial, payment-processing, sanctions, or other legal restrictions. Mutual Covenant Online Giving is currently available only to eligible U.S.-based churches and religious organizations whose Stripe connected account is established in the United States.
The applicable restrictions are those in effect at the time of the activity, as published by Stripe and by the relevant governments, and may change without notice to Mutual Covenant. Payment processing, identity verification, and payment-risk controls are performed by Stripe under its own agreements; Mutual Covenant relies on those controls together with platform eligibility requirements, each organization’s compliance attestation, and our ability to suspend Online Giving.
Mutual Covenant may restrict or suspend Online Giving when we reasonably believe activity violates these requirements or creates legal, fraud, financial, or payment-processing risk.

Whenever reasonably practical, we may contact the affected organization before imposing restrictions for excessive resource usage.
